Adel was excited she was finally about to her foot in the door. This was her first gym challenge, one of many to come. No matter if won or lost the ranger would learn from the experience. Maybe this would be she needed to shake her nerve and find out what she wanted to do with her life.

She knew of Josh Devlin for better or worse. His past faults were still loud and clear but she couldn't be one to hold it against him. He was the strongest and most devoted people to Hoenn. Everyone has their faults didn't they not?

The blonde took a deep breath it felt nice to walk beside her pokemon. She knew basic rules of the battle and what is to be expected of her. She hoped Josh was ready too!  The ranger took a deep breath deciding to munch on a peppermint as she paced the floor in the waiting area.

Mauville Racing Grounds' facility was enormous indeed; while the office space had little signage due to its size being on the smaller side, the property where the action took place, just outside the city proper, was enormous. Luckily, Josh had experienced staff who knew the facility well, and signage that could guide challengers to the correct location. The voice of ANDREW WEISS, Josh's scheduler, echoed over the Gym's loudspeakers:

"Challenger , please report to the Main Sector. Challenger Whiteley, to the Main Sector. Thank you!"

Provided Adelaide followed the ample signage to get to the Main Sector, where the facility's battle courts were located, she would find Josh removing the saddle from Meteos, an intimidating-looking Aerodactyl that looked downright dangerous to ride due to the species' extreme speed. "Challenger Whiteley?" Josh asked. "Gym Leader Josh Devlin. Great to meet you," he greeted the lady, the vast battleground behind him. While most Gyms' battle courts had some variance to how large they were, Mauville's was notable for being extremely large; it was triple regulation size, and it was wide open, with plenty of channels for aquatic Pokémon to swim. Pokémon had plenty of room to run and nowhere to hide, playing into the ultrafast Pokémon on Josh's Gym squad and giving them quite the home field advantage.

The Gym Leader directed the challenger toward the west side of the triple-sized court, toward the Trainer's Box on the challenger's side. "According to your application, this will be a two-Pokémon Doubles match. The first side to incapacitate both their opponent's Pokémon will be the winner. There will be a seven-minute time limit. Once time expires, the side with more Pokémon standing will be the winner. Ties will be broken by sudden death. Good luck to you; you'll need it."

Once the two trainers were positioned, the small gallery cheered, primarily for Josh, as the platforms rose to a height of roughly ten feet. The Gym Leader pointed toward the circular pool surrounding the inner ring of the battle court, the Aerodactyl ready to do battle. He hurled a second Poké Ball toward the pool, a vicious-looking Sharpedo appearing and thrashing in the water as if to goad Adelaide into giving it everything she had. "Now, bring forth your Pokémon and ponder your opening moves. I can assure you it will be the only decision you will have time to ponder," Josh taunted as the move timer counted down on the scoreboard clearly visible to the challenger.

Adelaide hurried to the Main Sector with what remained of her resourceful even her attempts to herself calm. It was now or never! The blonde smiled waving towards the gym leader. There was no turning back now! "That is correct, Gym Leader Josh. This is my first gym battle.  Victory or defeat I hope I show you what I am capable off. And to Feledir and Titania, my dear pokemon! Please remember you are both a team  in this! Work together! "

Oh ho ho ho! This was going to be an interesting battle for sure. Her mawile and Decidueye nodded seeming to knowledge her words  as they jump onto the court however they had their own style and way of do things. Couldn't rely on each other in one of their first greatest challenges only time will tell.

"Now starting off Iron Head and Spirit Shackle!" Titania roars attempted intimidate both pokemon while setting her sights on jaws. "Indeed, teamwork is important," Josh reiterated. "Whether a Pokémon team, or a team of rider and steed, they can only realize their true potential when they can produce something together that neither could on their own."

Feledir played the role of sniper against Meteos, who sought to build up tremendous speed. No amount of speed could help him dodge an arrow he could not see coming, the ethereal projectile emerging into the material at the very last moment. It pierced Meteos and forced him near the ground, putting a limit on his altitude, and by proxy, the speed the prehistoric predator could reach. Instead of resisting the pull of gravity, the Aerodactyl embraced it. He would have one shot to slice through the grass-type's flesh with a high-speed STONE EDGE that was sharp as a Kantonian katana.

While a Mawile's IRON HEAD was powerful, it was unwieldy. One of the lessons Mauville Gym sought to teach was that the most powerful Pokémon attacks were often no good against slippery targets. It would be a lesson would need to learn if she desired a Badge. "AQUA JET, Snacker!" Josh ordered. With a gunshot-like sound from the valve on the Sharpedo's rear, the dark-type bounce along the wide channel's surface with amazing speed. The purpose of the water-type technique was not to attack, but to defend. All Titania managed was a graze on the zooming shark. If she knew the species well, she would be able to predict the move the Gym Leader would use next, and adapt accordingly.
